The Valley offers a variety of homes in the small communities that make up this haven. Buellton, the Gateway into Santa Ynez Valley, offers a number of newer developments with affordable homes on smaller lots.  There are a number of larger ranches and vineyards located within that township as well Santa Ynez and Los Olivos, which makes up the largest portion of the valley, with affordable homes close into the township and small ranches as well as country houses with one or two horses are as much a part of the picture as the large land grant spreads.

The centerpiece of the Valley is Solvang, founded by Danish immigrants in the twenties and attracting tourists with its charm, generous smorgasbords, bakeries and gift shops.
